The King and the Crow

from Captain Death by Grey River & The Smoky Mountain

/

lyrics

The King summons the birds to sing for his son
The proudest of all the nightingales come
The hawks made him laugh, the owls made him sleep
But the crows make him cry, the crows made him weep

May the dark eyes return where the dark eyes belong
The King said: “Let’s burn all the crows until dawn”
But the blackest of all then killed them both and said:

“God made me fall for my wicked soul
King’s blood on my feather, King’s flesh on my claw
I fall, let me fall, how deep can I go
For I hear crows singing from there down below

I’ll never fly over this forest again
But if crows still breath then I ain’t lost in vain
I won’t give a damn about their Gods and their Kings
I’ll take all the pain; I’ll take all the pain

God made me fall for my wicked soul
King’s blood on my feather, King’s flesh on my claw
I fall, let me fall, how deep can I go
For I hear crows singing from there down below”
